OUR MISSION / OUR BELIEF~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Mission of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church:
We believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which declares him the Son of God, born
of the Virgin Mary, died on a cross at Calvary Mountain to redeem all humankind to
God, rose from the grave with all authority and power ascribed to him, ascended
back to heaven and now sits at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf
until he returns to receive all believers into the kingdom of God.

On that affirmation we are called to a Mission of assisting all persons to Catch
the Vision
, according to Holy Scripture, of who they really are in Christ;
Experience the Venture
of living daily for Christ while actively participating in
ministry; and celebrating with us as we Claim the Victory as the body of Jesus
Christ advancing the kingdom of God preaching, teaching, winning souls and
building Christ Centered ministries.

What be Believe:
At Antioch Missionary Baptist Church:
• We are a teaching church
• We are a friendly church
• We believe in outreaching to the unsaved through our Evangelism Ministry
We believe in God.
We believe that God is a spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable, in His being,
wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth.
We believe the Scriptures:
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired by God and
that God is the author of the Bible. It is the greatest book of knowledge that
provides to us the keys to life and God’s plan for salvation.
We believe in the True God:
We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one and only one living and true
God, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth, and in the unity of the
Godhead there are three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
equal in every divine perfection, the great work of redemption.
We believe in the Fall of Humanity:
We believe that humanity was created in perfect holiness under the law of the
Creator but willfully violated that holy and happy state thereby bringing upon all
persons the state of sin.
We believe in the Way of Salvation:
We believe the Scriptures teach that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace
through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God. He is in every way qualified to
be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Savior.

A Brief Church History:
On Saturday, June 2, 1990, a group of spirit-filled, born-again believers met in the home of Reverend and Mrs. Marcel Kellar at 4821 Lindell Street, Nashville, Tennessee to explore the possibility of organizing and planting a new church to serve the under-ministered area of Parkwood, Golden Valley and the surrounding communities. After prayerful discussion and deliberation the decision was made to organize a new church for the new congregation. The name Antioch was chosen as stated in Acts 11:26, with Reverend Marcel Kellar as the organizing pastor. On Thursday evening June 7, 1990 at 7:00 p.m., the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church convened at Temple Baptist Church to be officially recognized and accepted into the Middle Tennessee Baptist Association.

On Sunday, June 10, 1990 we held our first worship service in the auditorium of Maplewood High School. Pastor Kellar’s first sermon was “The Vision, the Venture, the Victory”, Matthew 28:19-29; Proverbs 29:18 and I Corinthians 15:57. When the invitation to Christian Disciple was extended, fourteen believers came forward to unite with the Antioch family.

During the following months of worship, membership increased. Following service we held fellowship receptions during this time we were able to fellowship with one another and create a loving and spiritual bond within the small group. On June 28, 1992 our church family met at Shoney’s to eat breakfast. After breakfast, we all met at Maplewood High School where we motorcaded to our new church home at 2037 Oakwood Avenue. What a joyous day it was! This is a brief history of how we were organized and the beginning of our new church home.
